Wood Fuel Suppliers

Virginia Pellet Mills

Most of Virginia is within 100 road-miles of a wood pellet mill.  The map above shows how much you can expect your delivery charge to be, per ton of wood pellets.  Locations up to 100 miles away from a pellet mill selling bulk wood pellets for $150 to $175 per ton can expect to pay $162.50 to $187.50 per ton delivered.  This would be the equivalent of paying $1.37 to $1.60 per gallon of fuel oil.

Saw mills are another potential source of wood fuels.  Primary mills convert recently harvested trees into lumber, clean wood chips, panels, pulp and paper and other forms of primary wood products.  Primary mills generate green (wet) sawdust, bark, and other residuals. To download the most recent list of primary wood product manufacturers, see Virginia Primary Mills.  Secondary wood product mills convert primary wood products into consumer products, such as cabinets and hardwood floors.  Furniture manufacturers near you may be producing varying quantities of kiln-dried sawdust, which burns very nicely, if you can get it!  To download the most recent list of secondary wood product manufacturers, see Secondary Wood Product Producers.  You can find the original source of these lists at the Forest Product Network Forest Products Locator website.
